Welcome to ASMC Las Vegas

Announcement

Welcome to the American Society of Military Comptrollers Las Vegas Chapter website. This site went live 1-DEC-2011, so we’re still in the process of adding on.

Headquartered at Nellis Air Force Base, the busiest, most diverse and definitely one of the largest Air Force Bases in the world. At Nellis we have not one but five wings. It’s the base that the Thunderbirds, the Weapons School and Red Flag call home. It’s the base seen and mentioned in many movies and TV shows, including “Source Code,” “Super 8″ and “Transformers” and the video games “Jane’s USAF” and “Fallout: New Vegas.”

Nearly a half a million flights are conducted at Nellis annually.

So, with all that going on, Nellis is a very visible very well-known air force base. With our sister base, Creech, located just up north spearheading the fight in Afghanistan and Iraq from their Predator and Reaper drones Las Vegas Chapter is a bustling, thriving community located just 7 miles away from one of the top tourist destinations in the world.

This site will try to reflect what Nellis AFB and the LV Chapter, which is 73 members strong and growing, is up to..

Members please register to become a contributor to this site. As a contributor you can post articles, pictures and other information.

Dr. Jamie Morin at Stimson Video

April 23, 2012

On 16-MAR-2012 Stimson welcomed Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Financial Management Jamie Morin to discuss how the Air Force’s proposed budget reflects the new defense strategy laid out by the President last month. Even as our fiscal crisis and the Budget Control Act lay greater constraints on defense spending, the Defense Department must respond to the world we live in. The President has laid out a strategy to achieve both goals, which suggests a greater reliance on the US Air Force.

Panetta on all budgetary and fiscal matters, including the development and execution of the Defense Department’s annual budget of more than $600 billion. As Chief Financial Officer, Mr. Hale also oversees the Department’s financial policy, financial management systems, and business modernization efforts. This forum will be held in Pentagon Auditorium, Room BH650, as well as through a live DCO webcast for all who are unable to attend in person.

Date: Wednesday, 1 February

Time: 1400 – 1500 (EST)

Location: DCO or Pentagon Auditorium, Room BH650 (For Pentagon’s attendees, please be in place NLT 1345)

DCO participants may attend through the following link: https://connect.dco.dod.mil/dfml21.

DFML21 is a quarterly event sponsored by SAF/FM to provide opportunities for interaction with FM senior leaders. In these town hall-style forums, FM senior leaders share insights and best practices that helped shape their career.  These sessions complement our organization’s internal mentoring efforts by providing an expanded stage for further understanding of AF FM structure, culture, and methods.

We are taking questions on leadership, mentoring and career development for the Q&A portion of the forum.  To submit questions for Mr. Hale, please email them by COB Friday, 27 January to SAF/FMEW workflow saf.fmew.workflow@pentagon.af.mil.  Participants, whether attending virtually or in person, will have the opportunity to participate in a Q&A session with the speaker.

If there are any special need requests for attending this session or if you have any questions, please email SAF/FMEW workflow (see above link).

Thank you and we look forward to seeing you on 1 February!
